The University of Rhode Island’s Metcalf Institute hosted a webinar about the Northeast Ocean Data Portal on January 15, 2019. A recording of the webinar is now available for those who missed the live event.
How can journalists, scientists, and educators use ocean mapping tools in reporting on and studying important environmental issues? How can community members use these tools to better appreciate our precious marine resources and understand the sometimes complementary, sometimes conflicting uses of ocean space?
Emily Shumchenia and Nick Napoli from the Northeast Ocean Data Portal team explained how users can easily access ocean data and use Portal tools to gain insight to monthly and seasonal changes in ocean uses and resources. They provided examples of recent Portal uses by agencies, educators, and journalists in the region.
