Now available on the Northeast Ocean Data Portal are updates to the Energy & Infrastructure theme, including updated information about energy development projects. The Portal seeks to maintain up-to-date information about offshore energy projects in the northeast region.
This release includes new information about the Atlantic Link project that has been proposed in response to the Massachusetts Clean Energy Request for Proposals. The Atlantic Link proposal includes a 375-mile subsea transmission line routed on the seafloor from New Brunswick to Plymouth, Massachusetts, where it would connect to existing electricity grid infrastructure. The Northeast Ocean Data map shows Atlantic Link’s preferred and alternative routes for the cable, which would carry electricity from wind and hydro sources in Canada.
This update of the Energy & Infrastructure theme also includes:
- Maine Aqua Ventus, a proposed pilot project to use a floating offshore wind turbine to develop renewable energy sources off Maine’s shores,
- a marine hydrokinetic energy testing site at the Cape Cod Canal, and
- updated information about offshore energy planning areas.
