Draft Environmental Impact Statement

On January 8, BOEM published the Notice of Availability (NOA) for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) in the Federal Register. NOA publication opens a 45-day public comment period. During this time, BOEM will conduct three virtual public meetings and accept comments on the Draft EIS. The input received via this process will inform preparation of the Final EIS. Comments on the Draft EIS should be submitted or postmarked no later than February 22.

During the comment period, BOEM will hold three virtual public meetings where the public can learn more about: the review process, EIS schedule, potential impacts from the proposed project, and proposals to reduce such impacts. There will also be an opportunity for participants to provide comments on the Draft EIS. The live virtual meetings will be held on the following dates and times. All times are Eastern:

  • Tuesday, Feb. 9 at 1 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.

Registration for the virtual meetings is encouraged. Additional information about the meetings, including instructions on how to register and provide comments during the meetings, may be found on BOEM’s virtual meeting room.

The virtual meeting room will be available throughout the 45-day comment period and will include a copy of the Draft EIS, fact sheets, posters, and pre-recorded presentations.

Deepwater Wind South Fork LLC made revisions to the South Fork Construction and Operations Plan (COP).

Revised Lease Area

On January 16, 2020, Deepwater Wind New England, LLC. submitted an application to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to assign 13,700 acres of OCS-A 0486 to Deepwater Wind South Fork, LLC. BOEM approved the assignment on March 23, 2020. The lease area assigned to Deepwater Wind South Fork, LLC. now carries the new lease number OCS-A 0517. Deepwater Wind South Fork, LLC’s lease is subject to all terms and conditions of the original lease, including the lease terms and October 1, 2013, effective date.

BOEM published a Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Construction and Operations Plan (COP) submitted by Deepwater Wind South Fork LLC on October 19, 2018.

Overview

The purpose of this web page is to provide links to interactive Northeast Ocean Data Portal maps relevant to the environmental review and permitting documents for the proposed South Fork Wind Farm in Lease Area OCS-A 0517. It also provides updates about the project status.

Deepwater Wind South Fork LLC proposes to build a 15-turbine offshore wind farm and transmission system in the Atlantic Ocean 35 miles east of Montauk Point, New York. Its transmission system will deliver power to the local grid in the Town of East Hampton, New York.
